Underage Students Will No More Write NECO, WAEC Exams –Education Minister

Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman has said that underage students will no longer be allowed to write examinations conducted by National Examinations Council, NECO and West African Examinations Council, WAEC.

He said this on Sunday during a live television programme on Channels Television monitored by Oasis Magazine.

According to him, a student ought to spend specific number of years from early care to secondary classes before graduating and writing WAEC and NECO.

He posited that a child ought to spend 5 years in early education, enter Primary 1 at 6, graduate from primary school at 12, move over to Junior Secondary School at 12 and graduate from Secondary School at 18 and be ready for university education.

Asked what the fate of smart children that may get double promotion was, he noted that special treatment was given to such in several countries, but said that the discussion on what obtains for very bright students will be for another day.
