Zulum Forms Committee To Coordinate Flood Disaster Relief Disbursement In Maiduguri
Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has established a committee to oversee the distribution of flood disaster relief to victims affected by the recent flooding in Maiduguri and surrounding areas. The flooding, caused by the overflow of Alau Dam, displaced several communities and caused significant damage to public and private infrastructure.
The committee will coordinate the government’s intervention, ensuring that aid reaches those in need. The Secretary to the Borno State Government, Alhaji Bukar Tijjani, announced the formation of the committee on Sunday, detailing its composition, which includes representatives from various government agencies, security forces, humanitarian partners, and civil society organizations.

The committee members include:
1. Engr. Baba Bukar Gujubawu Special Adviser, Monitoring and Evaluation – Chairman
2. Prof. Ibrahim Umara University of Maiduguri – Co-Chairman
3. Representatives from the EFCC, ICPC, Nigeria Police, Nigerian Military, DSS, NSCDC,North-East Development Commission (NEDC)
4. Ministry of Sports Development, Youth Development and Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Women Affairs, Ministry of Finance
5. Prof. Muhammad Alhaji Abubakar, Hon. Nasiru Ali Surundi
6. Representatives from SEMA, NEMA, BOSEPA, Shehu of Borno, Development Partners (UNDP)
7. Humanitarian partners such as UNOCHA, FAO, WFP, UNHCR, UNICEF, OM
8. Representatives from Civil Society Organizations, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI), and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
The committee is tasked with ensuring the transparent and efficient disbursement of relief materials to flood victims, while safeguarding the integrity of the process with the involvement of anti-corruption agencies and humanitarian organizations.
This move comes as part of Governor Zulum’s commitment to alleviating the hardships faced by displaced communities and restoring normalcy to the affected areas.
