The President General of Okpara Community in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, and President of Okpara Patriotic Union, OPU, Mr. Augustine Akatugba, has commended members of the vigilante group in the area for volunteering to tackle insecurity in the area.
While presenting four motorcycles to the vigilante members, Mr. Akatugba said that the gesture was geared towards equipping the group in order to aid them in their fight against crime and criminality.
He added: “In a month’s time, my administration would be a year old. Security was in a shabby form when we assumed office and the vigilante was not performing. But, so far, we have achieved relative peace in the area.
“The issue of kidnapping has reduced to the barest minimum, while we are still battling with cultism, though we have not allowed it overwhelm us.”
According to him, funds were raised to purchase the motorbikes from monies generated from companies in the area.
He called on the vigilante members to be prepared to secure the community from on the 18th to 21st of March during the cultural festival in the town, as visitors in their large numbers are expected to participate in the programme.
While Okpara Inland received two bikes, Okpara Waterside and Okurekpo got one each.
The presentation which held at the community’s town hall, was witnessed by community leaders, the Divisional Police Officer, Isiokolo Division, SP George Osakwe and members of the vigilante.
