Cultism: We Have Beefed Up Security In Eku, Says President-General
The President-General (PG) of Eku Community in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Jury Irikefe Ogbemudia, has said that actions have been taken to secure the community to curb the rise in cultist activities in the town.
The PG, who spoke to Oasis Magazine (OM) during a phone conversation, said that they have synergized with the army, police and traditional institution in the locality to bring the ugly trend to an end.
He said: “Some of the boys are in police net already and about 7 of them have been remanded. It is no more business as usual and rising insecurity in my area as reported is fast becoming a thing of the past.
“Before now, it is dangerous to come out of your house on Sundays in the area. But now, vigilante members are on ground every Sunday to checkmate the excesses of anyone that can lead to a breakdown of law and order.”
The community leader blamed the menace on unemployment, adding that some politicians after bringing these youths into the community and using them for elections are no more able to control them.
According to him, some of these miscreants are strangers who come into the town from neighbouring communities. He disclosed that one of the criminals caught recently was discovered to have come all the way from Benue State.
He called on residents in the community to expose anyone involved in cultism and criminality in the area, saying that they will not compromise and shield anyone from justice.
His words: “If my relative is involved in criminal activities and he is caught, he will be prosecuted so that when he comes back from prison, he would have learnt a lesson.”
Furthermore, he said that Eku Police Division would soon be commissioned, as they were working assiduously to make this happen.
He continued: “We have through our internal arrangements carried out electrification and plumbing works and have applied for furniture for the offices.”
The PG opined that Abraka Police Division does not have enough manpower to cover Eku, saying that the commissioning of Eku Police Division will reduce crime in the town.

When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get three emails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove me from that service? Many thanks!
