DELSU: Theatre Arts Department Ends Students’ Week With Dance Contest

The Association of Theatre Arts Students (ATAS), Delta State University, Abraka chapter, has successfully hosted a first-of-its kind dance contest in the department.
The programme which took place on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at the Theatre Arts Studio, had different scintillating solo and group dance performances during a keenly contested competition.
This event was one of the line-up of activities to mark this year’s students’ week celebration in the department.
Results announced by the judge, Mr. Hilary Ararile, a Chief Technical Insttuctor in the said department, saw Stevens winning the solo category and 100 Level students emerging winners for the class/group category.
Presenting the cash prizes to the winners, Mr. Ararile urged the students to take such contests more seriously next time, saying that with the talents he has observed in the department over time, he expected much more than what was presented during the competition.
He stressed: “We ought to have seen the best of the best today,” as he called on the executive of the department to get lecturers more involved next year.
He said: “Next time the students must make sure that the programme is well publicized to enable more contestants participate so the programme can look more interesting.”
On his part, the president of ATAS, Benjamin Edewor, said that they added theatrical performance to this year’s programme to make it look different, saying that this was the first dance fiesta to be witnessed during a student’s week in the department.
According to him the contest was a medium for students to express their potentials to the university community, adding that it was a platform for young aspiring and creative students to show what they have got to offer.
He called on students in the department to think out of the box and not allow their environment limit them as they strive for greatness.
An award/dinner party organised by the department is billed to hold on Saturday.
