Okowa Vanguard Endorses Gov. Okowa For Second Term, Backs Akpowowo For DTHA
A political pressure group, Okowa Vanguard, United Kingdom branch, has vowed to support Okowa’s second term ambition, come 2019, saying that Okowa deserves a second term.
Speaking to Oasis Magazine during an online chat, a member of the group, Chief Bright Sodje, based in the United Kingdom, who hails from Kokori in Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state, added that they would also support Olorogun Barr. Arthur Akpowowo, an aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that has indicated interest to represent the people of Ethiope East Local Government Area in the Delta State House of Assembly.
According to him, the group also has branches in Nigeria and the United States of America and is made up of members that hail from Delta Central Senatorial District.
He said: “Okowa Vanguard has been working for Okowa since 2014 prior to the 2015 elections and in his first term that is winding up next year, he has not disappointed us, and so we have decided to throw our weights again behind him in the forth-coming elections.
“During the last elections, we made impact in all communities in Delta State, especially those in Delta Central. We even held events in the United Kingdom and United States of America, promoting Okowa’s agenda like the S.M.A.R.T programme. Then, we all agreed that this was the best way forward for Delta.
“We have to understand that it is not easy to govern Delta State. As for me, Okowa is doing a great job. The job is not yet finished, that is why we should vote for him for a second term to finish what he started.
“We are hoping that Okowa will bring more development to Delta Central and more appointments.”
Responding to questions about the reasons behind their decision to back Arthur Akpowowo, he said: “This time around, we have studied all aspirants from Delta Central and the first aspirant we are throwing our weights behind is Barr. Akpowowo.
“From our findings, we agree that Evance Ivwurie is doing a good job, however, we feel Barrister Akpowowo will be the ideal person to take Ethiope East forward with his manifesto of creating more opportunity for young people, creating opportunities for Delta State by having a roundtable discussion with the international community to invest in the state and more funding for all sports, not just football.
“What stood out for me in the Barrister’s manifesto was his plan to open a liaison office in Ethiope East for the people to have access, social security and power to the local people.”
“At present we are still watching to know Who to support for the Senatorial aspirant for Delta Central. I personally have a great interest in Oboro and Amori; we have not decided who to support yet. In due course will decide who to back to represent us at the Senate,” he averred.
He said further: “My call to my people is to vote Okowa again and support Barrister Akpowowo.”
