Delta Lawmaker, Evance Ivwurie Empowers Constituents

The member representing Ethiope East Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. (Chief) Evance Ivwurie, today, presented various empowerment items to members of his constituency.

A total of 11 motorcycles, 22 sewing machines, 22 hair dryers, 22 grinding machines, 11 cassava blending machines, 22 generators and cash gifts were presented to leaders and members of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, during the ceremony that held at Isiokolo, the council headquarters.

Dignitaries present at the ceremony included the State Governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa; Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori; State party Chairman, Barr. Kingsley Esiso; Member, House of Representatives, Ethiope Federal Constituency, Hon. Lovette Idisi; Chairman, Ethiope East Local Government Area, Chief Faith Majemite; party leader in the local government, Chief Bernard Edewor, Chief Ighoyota Amori and a host of others.

Speaking during the programme, Chief Ivwurie disclosed that he has sponsored about 24 bills, moved six motions of urgent importance, championed the campaign and proactive efforts to tackle the Fulani Herdsmen and Presco Plc invasion of Ethiope East Ovre’ r’ Okpara Waterside, Igun, Eku and Abraka issues and championed the crack down of kidnappers and other criminals, thereby restoring law, order and security of lives and property in the locality.

He said: “As Chairman House Committee on Works, I have also been a thorn in the flesh of every recalcitrant contractor paid to execute road contracts or any infrastructure projects in Delta State. I have achieved all these only through the support, encouragement and decisive leadership of His Excellency Senator Dr. Arthur Ifeanyichukwu Okowa, Governor of Delta State.”

He added: “I have continued to protect Ethiope East interest in the Delta State Government yearly budgets and appropriations leading to the harvest of schools and roads construction, rehabilitation and projects across Ethiope East approved by the Governor and others through my constituency projects.

“I have also attracted to Eku, a brand new one storey building with 15 classrooms, three laboratories, two ICT rooms, principal office, Vice-Principal office, staff room, a modern library, two clinic rooms (sick bay), 12 conveniences/ lavatories, 50KVA generator set and a water-borehole to Eku Girls Secondary School through the help of an illustrious son of Eku working with Exxon Mobil.

“I also personally recommended the establishment of a Sickle Cell Centre, at Eku Baptist Hopsital, Eku, in 2016 to the First Lady of Delta State, Her Excellency, Dame Edith Okowa.”

Furthermore, he said: “Today, I am empowering 562 people across Ethiope East 11 electoral wards and another set of 1016 people across the local government area in subsequent phases.

“Today’s empowerment forms the first phase of my empowerment. Throughout the course of next week, I will be empowering our Eghweyas (community women folks) with 110 bags of salt per ward, 275 top grade wrappers with 25 pieces for each ward Eghweyas and a token of my appreciation for their resilience, commitment to love, peace, progress and for keeping our communities together.

“I am also empowering 210 people cutting across various political party lines with a token of my respect and deep appreciation for their selfless sacrifices, efforts and contributions to my election in 2015.”

The lawmaker also promised to give 11 motorcycles to 11 youths and 300 pieces of top grade wrappers women selected from the 11 wards.

According to him, Sen. Okowa is Ethiope East’s sole candidate for re-election as Governor of Delta State, stressing that the council will “electrify, lead and champion this demand, campaign and election as a strong voice and solid support base for Gov. Okowa’s re-election in 2019.”

Earlier, Dr. Okowa commended the gesture by the legislator, saying that such empowerment programmes should include non-party members also.

He urged party members to promote peace and unity at all times.

On his part, Barr. Esiso opined that the ceremony was an indication that the party has a working member in the Delta State House of Assembly.

He added: “As a party, we encourage everybody that is privileged to be empowered to take a little from their pockets and give to the less privileged. Let us not leave this job for legislators.”
