A former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND,Gen. Freedom Adowei recently dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC, as he joined the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Ughelli, Delta State.
In a statement signed and made available to Oasis Magazine, Adowei vowed to deliver 20,000 votes to any of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP who emerges as its Presidential Candidate in the forthcoming 2019.
The PDP National Convention held at Port-Harcourt,Rivers State.
Adowei said his defection to the PDP was occasioned by the impressive performances of the Delta State Governor, Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa as well as the qualitative leadership displayed by the member representing Burutu Federal Constituency in the Federal House of representatives, Abuja, Rt. Hon. Julius Pondi.
Adowei noted that under Governor Okowa,the riverine communities across the state are receiving government’s attention more than ever with some transforming into cities.
He commended the Governor for the construction of roads in riverine communities like the Okerenkoko road in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West, Sokebolou /Obotobo road in Ogulagha Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area, Burutu Township concrete road pavement and others within the local government and beyond.
Adowei described Governor Okowa as a development guru, stressing that Delta Ijaw Communities has never had it this good since the history of the State.
Adowei also applauded Hon. Julius Pondi for his qualitative and purposeful leadership, adding that his few years in office has brought smiles to many in Burutu Local Government and Niger Delta at large.
Adowei hailed the leadership of PDP in Delta State for conducting the most freest, fair and credible primaries across stressing that this has never happened.
The Ex-freedom fighter also congratulated all the winners and losers of the just concluded PDP primaries in the State.
He enjoined those who lost out in the primaries to accept it in good fate, saying that tomorrow is always another day just he appreciated them for their bravery.
Adowei also hailed the PDP delegates across the State for choosing their choice candidates in a more civilized and peaceful manner.
A political analyst in Delta State, Mr. Solomon Tega said Adowei’s defection is a big blow and a major political injury to the APC in Delta State, stressing that, the party has lost a strong man under their fold.
Tega noted that, with Adowei’s exit, APC is doomed and finished in Delta State saying,”come 2019, PDP will have a smooth ride.”
