NMA Delta Organizes Free Medical Outreach October 23

The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Delta State Chapter, is billed to hold a free medical outreach in the areas of eye,  malaria, diabetes, hypertension and other diseases through testing and treating of patients at Ubulu-Uku Government Hospital on October 23rd, 2018, starting from 9a.m. prompt.

This information was made known to journalists by the Vice Chairman, NMA Delta State Chapter, Dr. Owa Nwabuzor, who hinted that the programme is meant to mark the NMA “Physicians Week”.

Owa who affirmed that the medical outreach is part of social responsibility of the NMA, in line with ridding the society of avoidable sicknesses and deaths, enjoined the public to see the outreach as a token from professionals giving back to society.

According to her, while briefing the Executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Delta State Council on the proposed outreach, Owa stated that “this is an opportunity for the public to benefit some free medical attention from the professionals themselves”, adding that they (physicians) also feel the pain of the ordinary people who most times could not afford the high cost of health services in the country.

Dr. Owa appealed to the NUJ members as information vendors, to help mobilize the public to take advantage of this rare opportunity of free medical treatment that the NMA has magnanimously offered.

She stressed that there would be screening and treatment for eye, malaria, diabetes, hypertension, scaling and polishing of teeth and of course free eye glasses would be provided for patients with serious eye default.

Responding, the Vice Chairman who represented the Chairman, Comrade Patrick Ochei assured NMA of NUJ’s collaboration to ensure that the society benefits from such professional largesse.

He said, ” as journalists, our responsibility is first and foremost to the society. Whatever good that is coming to the society, it is our responsibility to inform them and mobilize them to benefit. This we will do”.

He however, commended the NMA for taking such initiative at this critical time, thereby calling on other well to do professional groups to emulate such initiative for a better society.
