DELSU Student Missing, Whereabouts Unknown After 4 Days

A 300 level student of Mass Communication, Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Miss Elozino Joshuana Ogege, has been reported missing and her whereabouts unknown after four days.

Reacting to the shocking development, Elozino’s wlder sister, Faith Ogege

said: “On Wednesday, she called me about an accommodation inside the school close to the lecturer’s  lodge that someone in Site III told her about and that an Agricultural Science lecturer was in charge. According to her, a security guard in Site III said when he is done discussing with the lecturer he would inform her.

“We then asked her to conclude her investigation of the house and when she is done, we would send her younger brother to confirm and make payment. My mother also asked her to inform the Head of Department who is like a father to her in the department.

“On Thursday, her neighbours saw her leaving and she even called one Mrs. Elo who is like a mother to her of her move to secure an accommodation in Site III.  Mrs. Elo got several missed calls from Elozino, who then returned the calls, but found out that Elo’s line was switched off. Later on, she said she then got a text message from Elozino that she would send an account number when she is ready to make payment. This, made her perceive that something was wrong because there was no discussion of such before. Several attempts by her god-mother to contact her failed. Minutes later, a guy picked her call and then a lady (who claimed to be her sister) picked a second call and said that Elozinno had gone to school. So, Mrs Elo called my mum who informed me and we went separately to Abraka. My mum then went to the police station to make report. The police asked us to go home that a kidnap case needs 24 hours of monitoring. We could not sleep that night.

“The next day, we then suggested to the IPO that with IT we can track the phone numbers of those she spoke with before the incidence. From the tracking, we were sent three numbers that those were the numbers she was talking to on Wednesday before the incidence and on Thursday. I was asked to check the three phone numbers if I know them. I recognized two. One was Mrs. Elo and the other her friend who finished from Abraka. When we traced the third number, the details showed that this guy called her at about 8p.m. on Wednesday and 7.15 a.m. the next day. We were also sent five pictures that might be involved.”

According to her, a diligent search with the aid of the Chief Security Officer (CSO) helped them track the main suspect who happened to be a security personnel on duty that day, adding that on sighting the CSO without a prior knowledge of the need for the visit, he took to his heels. He was found with Elozino’s phone and  arrested.

Two suspects so far, Chika Obi and Benedict, in connection with the incidence have been arrested transferred to Asaba after they refused to speak up on what they know.

Faith alleged that Chika Obi in whose possession her sister’s phone was found is an ex-convict who has served seven years in Okere Prisons.

She wondered why DELSU will employ an ex-convict as security personnel.

She added: “I have spoken with the CP and he has assured me that the suspects will speak up. He asked me to be glad that the main suspects have been apprehended.

“My mum did not let us know that some of her coursemates have been threatening her in school. The same Thursday she was kidnapped she was supposed to make a presentation in her department. She is the best student in her department and a first class student.

“The question we have been asking is how come did the said security personnel know that she was looking for an accommodation? My sister even promised to come on Friday to inform my mum of some challenges she was going through.

“If that boy can open up, he would lead us to the student that set Elozino up.”

Faith believes that her sister was setup by some of her coursemates, saying that a text message was sent to her mother to advice Elozino to be careful anytime she was in school, as she was under strict monitoring by some students in the department who are not happy with her for several reasons.

Also, she disclosed that the landlord of the hostel (Frnklin Hostel) she stays in has severally called the mother to warn her daughter to stay away from one Vivian, who is a neighbor to the missing student and her best friend.

“My sister does not have time for men and she is a prayer warrior,” she stressed.

At the time of filing this report, Vivian is said to have gone into hiding.

According to the mum, her daughter called her some days before the incidence and told her how she had an issue with vigilante members on Monday who told her that she owes two months and threatened to deal with her.

Continuing, she also disclosed that on the said day, vigilante members prevented her from going for lectures and called on the police to also arrest the vigilante member too.

The Dean of Students’ Affairs, (DELSU), Abraka, Prof. Augustus Atubi, who confirmed the development, said that the police were already working on the case.

The Delta State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Andrew Aniamaka, said:  It is a case of a missing person. It is been investigated, but at the end of the day, we will communicate the outcome of our investigations to the press.

Meanwhile, the management of Delta State University, Abraka has refuted claims of negligence leveled against it by a group of persons over the abduction of the student.
