Pass A Vote Of No Confidence On Him

By Daniel Dafe

The National Secretary of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, Youth Wing, Worldwide, Comrade Kelly Efemena Umukoro, has disclosed that Urhobo youths will not hesitate to bring academic activities to a halt in DELSU over the murder of Miss Elozino Ogege, a 300 level student of Mass Communication, saying that the Vice Chancellor, Professor Victor Peretomode has shown nonchalance since the incidence occured.

Speaking to Oasis Magazine (OM), during an exclusive chat, Umukoro, said that he led a delegation of executive members of the youth wing of UPU during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased yesterday.

Umukoro said: “I was emotional while listening to the account of the mother of late Elozino, who told us how she sometimes had to eat iribotor soup, just to make sure that she sacrifices to send her daughter to the university.

“Elozino came to DELSU hoping to be secured by the institution, only to be killed by ritualists aided by a security operative in the institution. Instead of the institution to take responsibility, they are trying to indict the host community, Abraka for the murder. If the VC cannot tame this ugly trend of murder of students, then he should resign or we will force him to.

“Does it mean that DELSU does not do security checks before employing people and thus ended up employing an ex-convict as security personnel?

“In DELSU, if a student insults someone outside of the campus, he or she gets 6 semesters and they call that discipline, but yet they are not ready to disengage the security firm, Geo-Gratias that employed the killer security.

“It is shocking that till now, the management has not officially informed the bereaved family of the death of their daughter, and not also visited them.

“Late Elozino’s family praised the CP and the police over the manner in which they handled the issue, but had unkind words for the VC. They even mistook a former SUG President, Mamus, as the present SUG president and were ready to pounce on him.”

He continued: “Before I went for the visit, I contacted my colleague from Isoko nation, Comrade Ovie and I will not disclose what is on board, but on Friday after our final meeting, DELSU management should get ready for us.

“The three things we want Peretomode to do if he wants peace is to accept responsibility for the death of Elozino, apologise to Abraka community for trying to shift the blame to them and also disengage the security outfit that employed the killer security.

“Abraka is the most peaceful community I know in Nigeria, and maybe that is why the VC is trying to take them for granted. The security structure of the university and off campus ought to be in the hands of indigenes.

“If the VC continues like this with his nonchalance towards the security of students, most parents would not want their children to come to DELSU.

“He might of succeeded in silencing his SUG, but he cannot do same to Urhobo youths or stand us.”

Umukoro prayed for God’s strength to enable Isoko nation bear the loss, adding that no amount of compensation would be good enough to replace such a brilliant young lady.
