One In Coma, Many Injured, As PDP, APC Supporters Clash In Ethiope East LGA
Barley two weeks to the general elections, a clash has occurred between supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, as several persons have been reported injured and one said to be in a state of coma.
According to our investigation, the fracas began yesterday in a bar, when an APC member was beaten up by some PDP faithful who considered him as a trespasser since they considered the said bear parlour a territory that belonged to PDP.
According to an APC member, angered by the development, APC supporters today went about in town protesting and in the process venting their anger on any member of PDP in sight.
In the process, several publicity materials such as sign posts and billboards belonging to PDP candidates in the forthcoming elections were destroyed.
Oasis Magazine (OM) also gathered that today, a fight ensued between the supporters of both parties that resulted in casualties from both sides.
At the moment, Julius, an APC member, was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Obiaruku and he is said to be in a state of coma.
Also, John Enamuotor, popularly known as Atom, a younger brother to a former Delta State House of Assembly hopeful on the platform of the PDP who had withdrawn from the race earlier, was said to have been attacked in his house at Ekrejeta by APC supporters.
At the time of filling this report, the victims have since been taken to hospital for medical attention while Police and Army officers were currently stationed at strategic points in the town to forestall an escalation of the situation.
A source close to the Police said security personnel have taken control of the situation to avoid a reprisal attack.
