Vote Your Conscience, Not Sentiments, Cleric Tells Nigerian
-…Sues For Peace
By Daniel Dafe
A renowned cleric in Warri, Delta State, Bishop (Dr.) Curtis Fianu, in charge of Church of God Mission International (CGMi), New Warri Bishopric, has called on Nigerians to go out on Saturday and vote what their conscience approves and not based on sentiments.
The Bishop who spoke to Oasis Magazine (OM) yesterday, during an exclusive chat after the church’s Valentine programme tagged ‘Suya Night’, prayed that voters choose the right candidates so that in the next four years all Nigerians will have every reason to thank God for the kind of leaders they elected.
He added: “I have heard politicians making inciting statements that will provoke people into fighting. Their children are not in Nigeria. When they even win elections, they won’t remember those that voted them. Election is not war. I heard Amaechi raise a war song in one of their campaigns and I was amazed.
Speaking about the ‘Suya Night’ programme organized by the church, he disclosed that the concept was borne out of a vision that God gave him when he was in Calabar.
“Our church then was more of a student church since we were in a student community. God told me if I don’t bring them to church that they will find themselves in wrong places. The programme then was done outdoors and we saw politicians, students and others bring their friends for the event.
“It was used as a tool for evangelism so that instead of them going to the wrong places on’ Valentine Day’, they can come to church.
“I have done this for almost eight years since I came to Warri. My joy is to see people give their lives to Christ on this day annually. Imagine the crowd that came here today.”
He called on Nigerians to love God and one another.
