By Our Correspondents
Monday, May 27 has been fixed for the 2019 edition of the yearly Alaka Children’s Day celebration in Surulere, Lagos State.
The event will help the children develop their potentialities and cultivate national consciousness.
A statement issued in Lagos recently by the organisers read in part: “This is an ideal opportunity for children in Nigeria to acquire new skills and new attitude which will enable them to make greater contribution to society in future.”
The programme, the organisers said will also incorporate activities such as talks on domestic violence, childcare, drug abuse, child labour and also debate, quiz, dancing, singing, speech writing, poetry recitation and drawing.
“The programme is aimed at broadening the horizon of the young people,” the statement, signed by Henry Ebireri, Peter Odukoya, Soji Odusina, Nasir Olayinka and Taiwo Alao said.
There will be prizes and giveaways during the programme and the chance to meet people from other geo-political zones.
The programme will be a wonderful way to spend some time together in the constituency of the incoming Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, member representing Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Desmond Elliot and the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, His Excellency, Babatunde Raji Fashola.
