Neglect Of Itsekiri Communities: Tension In Warri, As INYC 72 Hours Ultimatum To Chevron Expires Today

There is palpable tension in the oil city of Warri and the operational headquarters of American oil giant, Chevron Nigeria Limited, in Warri South and in Ugborodo, Warri South-West Local government areas of Delta State.

You would recall that the Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC, the apex Itsekiri Youth body world-wide had handed down a 72-hour ultimatum to Chevron Nigeria on Friday, May 10, 2019 over its adamant neglect of its host communities of Ugborodo and others.

Their grievances include lack of employment, portable water, power supply, as well as failing to create enabling contract opportunities for its host community.

It was however gathered that Chevron only met with host communities of Ugborodo at the weekend after almost a week of protest by the community that crippled its operations in the past week.

When our correspondent visited Ugborodo community, women, youth and other indigenes were seen sleeping and occupying Chevron main entrance at Ugborodo and thus bringing all business activities to a halt.

As it stands, no one knows the next line of action by INYC if the government and Chevron management do not intervene to avert the danger that looms ahead.
