Tramadol Addiction In DELSU: Oasis Magazine Cautions Reporter, Apologises To Pharmacists

Our attention has been drawn to some distorted facts published by Oasis Magazine (OM)on our online platform.

The said publication had the headline- ‘The Ugly Tale of Tramadol Addiction in DELSU.’

According to feedbacks from pharmacists in the community and some of our readers, a few exaggerated claims in the published material have been pointed out to us.

In the published material, the writer claimed that 95 percent of pharmacists are involved in massive tramadol distribution, thereby blaming pharmacists for the trend amongst students. While we do not intend to come to the defense of pharmacists, the 95 percent claim is certainly false. We know a few credible pharmacists in Abraka that we can vouch for.

Based on facts presented to us by some pharmacists, we have come to understand that the numbers of pharmacy in Abraka are not more than five. We have also been informed that lots of what we generalized in the said material as pharmacists and pharmacies could have been drug stores or mere chemists shops.

Owning to the facts that have been presented to us, we call on pharmacists in the area to pardon this error of ours and hereby tender an unreserved apology.

The said writer has been cautioned and we are sure that our materials will be screened more thoroughly to avoid a repeat of publishing such misleading materials next time.

Also, we call on our readers to disregard the claim that two out of three DELSU students are into drugs. While we know that many students are into drugs, we consider this figure as over bloated.  

We call on all affected by the said publication to consider the write-up as a product of unethical behavior by the writer and negligence on the part of the editor that allowed that material go to the public.

Our staff members at the receiving end of the blame for this ugly embarrassment have since been cautioned and disciplinary measures meted on them.
