PCRC: Sapele Area Command Holds End Of Year Security Town Hall Meeting

The leaders and members of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Sapele Area Command, have successfully held a one-day end of year security town hall meeting.

The programme which was organised in collaboration with the Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor on Security and Intelligence Gathering, Hon. Tony Edafioghor, took place yesterday at ICDU Hall, Jesse in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Speaking during the occasion, the Chairman of PCRC in the area, Comrade Oliver Eyefia, said that “the aim of the gathering was to bridge the gap between the police and the community, most especially in the area of effective communication as a veritable tool towards a successful community policing.”

Eyefia called for a greater synergy between the police and PCRC in the Command.

Continuing, he said that he was poised to with the help of the executive of PCRC make Sapele Area Command the best in the nation.”

He appealed to those present to assist PCRC in the area purchase a vehicle to ease the mobility of members in order to help them carry out their voluntary partnership with the police.

He commended the State Chairman, Amb. (Dr.) Odet EMO (JP), popularly known as Madam Bravo and the Area Commander, ACP Sani Nfuwa for their support and encouragement so far.  

Earlier, the National Vice Chairman, PCRC, Deacon Kenneth Otuonunyo (JP), delivering a keynote address, noted: “The police can never work effectively in isolation of the community.”

He urged communities in the Command to assist the police by providing timely and true information, help in building the image of the security outfit, give financial assistance to aid the police in maintaining their vehicles, electronic gadgets, etc and help the police to integrate into the community by understanding the culture and tradition of locals without infringing on the culture of the locals.

Otuonunyo called on the police to reciprocate such gestures by ensuring that the communities are peaceful, respond promptly to distress calls, recognise all legitimate and financial PCRC members and assist PCRC members to gain access to useful and beneficial information ahead of others.  

According to him, crimes are factor driven, saying that the environment, culture, seasons, peer group and migration are some of the factors behind criminality in a community.

On her part, the State Chairman, Amb. Odet, opined that everyone irrespective of whether they are security operatives or not must take on the role of a security personnel.

While calling on residents not to delay vital information when they have any, she noted that such delays could lead to crisis in an area.

She added: “In the past, people were afraid to give information to the police, but now with the reorientation of our police officers, your information is safe with them.”

High point of the ceremony was the unveiling and launch of the maiden calendar of OCRC in the Area Command.

Other dignitaries present at the occasion include: Area Commander, Sapele, ACP Sani Adamu Naufuwa represented by CSP Onah Reuben; Executive Director, Finance and Administration on the Board of Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Hon. John Obukohwo Nani, represented by Comrade Johnson; Chief Akpanoko London, CEO, London Royal Hotel, Sapele; Chief Ben Omuvwie; Chief Daniel Ighoyohwo Solomon, Hon. Edafiogho represented by Comrade Igho and the DPOs of several divisions under the command.   

High point of the programme was the launch of the maiden calendar of PCRC in the area.
