Abraka Must Produce The Next Council Chairman In Ethiope East, Says Chief Oweh

An aspirant for the House of Representatives seat, Ethiope Federal Constituency, during the 2019 elections, Chief Kesito Oweh, has said that he is on the vanguard for the fight to make sure that Abraka produces the next chairman in Ethiope East Local Government Area.
Chief Oweh who spoke to Oasis Magazine (OM) during an exclusive chat added: “With recent political appointments done by the Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa that is in favour of the Agbon people, zoning the Chairmanship position to Abraka is non-negotiable.”
He said: The political appointments he made in Abraka is a complete disaster and it will not get PDP anywhere in Abraka. PDP in Ethiope East has been run by a group of people to the detriment of the political and structural growth of Abraka. It is as if they have decided that the Abraka people are slaves. We are not slaves to anybody. We are even stronger in population than Agbon 1 and 2 put together. They may have a large area, but we have the population.
“I remember when Okowa visited the council and while he was in Chief Benard Edewor’s house, a strong politician in the area said that they don’t need Abraka to win an election and in that election we did not give our votes to PDP and they lost out. Evance Ivwurie won his first election to the Delta State House of Assembly because he got 90 percent of the votes in Abraka. In the last election when Abraka people worked against him (which I see as a very big curse to them), he lost. That tells you that Abraka is a force to be reckoned with in Ethiope East politics.
Speaking further, he said: “The Agbon people feel they must always have all the commissioners, House of Assembly members and only give the Vice Chairman position to Abraka. This time, it must be an Abraka man as chairman. Agbon must stop relegating us to the background. We are not second class indigenes in the local government.
He continued: “Any party, be it the All Progressives Congress, APC or the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP (where I still belong to partially despite that I ran under the platform of Social Democratic Party in the last election), that gives their ticket to an indigene of Abraka is the candidate that the Abraka people will vote for.
“Agbon cannot give any candidate block votes, unlike Abraka that has done that on several occasions.”
According to him, he is not preaching for an Abraka candidate just for the benefit of Abraka people alone, but for the development of Ethiope East.
Furthermore, he said the issue of 3 federal wards given to Abraka is abnormal.
“They have continued to use this against us. Agbon must accept rotation of the chairman just as the state has accepted the rotation of the governor to all senatorial districts,” he averred.
He urged the chairman of the council area, Chief Faith Majemite and other political stakeholders to support this call to make an Abraka indigene to emerge as the next chairman of the local government area.
