DELSU Matriculates 4, 958 Students, Warns Against Vices

-As Egwunyenga Vows To Make Giant Strides In Infrastructural Development

The Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, today, January 25, 2020, officially welcomed to campus its newly admitted students for the 2019/ 2020 academic session, being the first presided over by the institution’s new Vice Chancellor, Professor Andy Egwunyenga.
The ceremony which held at the university’s Convocation Arena, had a total of 4, 958 matriculating out of the 22, 448 candidates that applied for admission into the university.
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony, the Vice Chancellor said that “DELSU has grown from a modest beginning to a highly rated citadel of research and higher learning.”
He added: “It has distinguished itself as one of the centres of academic excellence and has become an attraction for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions.”
This, he said, has been largely due to the school’s track record of maintaining a smooth and uninterrupted academic calendar over the years, as he commended the Delta State government for its interest and commitment to the overall well-being of the university.
Continuing, he vowed to like past administrations continue to take giant strides to place the university in the world map in the area of infrastructural development.
Speaking further, he disclosed that the Faculty of Engineering which was hitherto denied accreditation status has secured full accreditation in its five academic programmes.
He called on the students to be diligent in their academic work and be honest in the pursuit of their dreams, adding that they must avoid been captives of the social media which he said is a subtle distraction and time stealer.
Egwunyenga noted that the university “takes serious exception to issues that border on indiscipline and lawlessness particularly when such actions involve violence, cultism, internet fraud, examination malpractice, indecent dressing and the likes.
He thus urged them to shun all forms of vices that can jeopardize the completion of their studies, as he promised that the management will continue to wage war against nefarious activities of secret cults on the campus.
