Delta 2023: Okowa Should Ensure That An Urhobo Indigene Becomes Governor, Says Cleric

-Wants Him To Get New Hands To Help Actualise The ‘Stronger Delta’ Agenda
-Says Okowa Did Well In His First Term

The National President of the Episcopal Bishops and Christians Movement for National Rebirth (EBCM), Bishop Dr Duke Akpososo, has said that “Okowa must ensure the smooth transition to the next round of the rotation by making sure by all means that an Urhobo man becomes the next governor in the state.
Akpososo is also the General Overseer, Anointed Word Bible Ministries (Kingsway Cathedral), Warri, a former Education Secretary, Udu Local Government Area Education Authority, former State Coordinator, New Partnership For African Development(NEPAD) and onetime member, Delta State Waterways Security Committee.
Speaking to Oasis Magazine (OM) during an exclusive chat, he added: ‘He must ensure that an Urhobo man becomes Governor so that his name will not be mentioned that he supervised the collapse of a formidable arrangement to produce the next governor.”
According to him, “nobody can truncate this rotational governorship arrangement. Nobody, no political rascal can thwart it. Only Okowa can truncate it. If Okowa says it must be an Urhobo man, he himself will put machineries on ground to activate this and bring it to pass. If this rotational governorship arrangement fails, Okowa is liable and answerable to God, PDP and Deltans because the arrangement is divine.”
He said: “I wish to state unequivocally that the rotation of the governorship position is the best thing that has happened to Delta State. By this arrangement, Delta Central is supposed to produce the next governor in 2023. However, Delta Central should work very closely with her neighbors to achieve this. The rotation is not based or tailored along ethnic lining. Every senatorial zone should patiently wait for her turn. Any ethnic group trying to agitate for the seat of the governor come 2023 is simply trying to put a clog in the wheel of the political progress of Delta State.”
While congratulating Governor Okowa over his victory at the Supreme Court, describing it as well deserved, he said that “Ogboru was on a wild goose chase when he approached the Supreme Court.”
His words: “Ogboru going to the Supreme Court was an effort in futility because he knows that his ambition to contest with Okowa in the first instance was dead on arrival, because Okowa is the people’s choice. The decision of the Supreme Court is victory for democracy and Deltans.”
Furthermore, while he scored Okowa high in his first term, he urged the governor to in his second term fully complete all the projects he started during his first tenure.
He continued: “He should also try to appoint new hands to work with him in his second tenure instead of recycling same old hands in his first tenure. I believe in building the new ‘Stronger Delta’. There are undiscovered talents that could fast track the process rather than trusting in old hands. New articulate, matured, tactical persons and technocrats should b brought on board by the governor to activate the process of building a ‘Stronger Delta’, after all, it is ‘Prosperity for All Deltans’.
Speaking further, he said: “I appeal to our governor to do the needful by deliberately looking outside of the circle of the old hands. He should try some other Deltans who in one way or the other contributed both politically and spiritually to his return to government. I have no doubt at all in my mind that Okowa will deliver on the mandate and execute the social contract he has with Deltans because he knows there is always a tomorrow.”
Continuing, he said: “PDP through the administration of Okowa has done very well. Delta State has benefitted so much from the PDP government in the area of road network, payment of salaries, appointment of Deltans as aides to the governor, deputy governor, the Speaker, Deputy speaker, etc.
“Other benefits are the development of human resources; our hospitals and health centers are no more mere consulting centers. Our schools have been upgraded by putting in place good fences and classroom blocks. Contractors are been paid. PDP has moved the state forward compared to what is happening in some APC states.”
