Group Counters Alleged Fake News Against DG Asaba Development Agency, Mrakpor

A group, Rights Advocate on Thursday countered a news report on social media allegedly sponsored by one Victor Ojieh on “Wong Box” against the Director-General of Asaba and Environs Capital Development Agency, Mrs. Onyemaechi Joan Mrakpor.
The group led by Tega Shalokpe staged a peaceful protest to the Secretariat of the NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel in a reaction to a social media report sponsored by some persons.
The group, made up of women is defending Mrs. Mrakpor because they viewed the campaign of calumny against her as intimidation against women in the State.
Members of the group where flanked by their legal adviser, Mr. Michael Etaneviano Esq.
They carried placards with inscriptions such as, “Mrakpor is working in Asaba and Environs”, ” We say No to victimization”, “We say No to fake news”, ” We say No to blackmail”, “We say No to rumor mongers”.
Others read: “Total cooperation towards the cleanliness of Asaba”,” An urgent call to other DG’s to carry out their duties bestowed on them by the Delta State Government” and “Let’s join hands with Mrakpor to clean Asaba and Environs.”
In a chat with news men, the National President of Right Advocate, Tega Shalokpe urged the Delta State Government to ignore the blackmails launched against Mrs. Onyemaechi Joan Mrakpor.
Shalokpe said the fake news on the social media against Mrakpor is not true, stressing that “she is working.”
She said: “We are here to counter those news and we are saying no to those fake news. We are saying no to blackmail. We are saying no to scandal and we want the state government to ignore whatever anybody has written or said on social media concerning Mrs. Mrakpor.
“Other people who were given the same position in the state are not doing anything.
“The Governor has commissioned 104 shops so far. She is working. We should say no to blackmail and scandal.”
Also, in a chat with newsmen, Mrs. Rose Omovudice Onomavwe who aligned herself with the positions of the National President said they want Mrakpor to remain as the DG Asaba of Development Agency.
Onomavwe who spoke in pidgin English language said: “Make them leave her alone.”
