Encourage Your Children To Engage In Sporting Activities, Enebeli Tells Parents
The proprietress of Holy Crest Schools, Odibo Street Extension Warri, in Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State, Mrs. Bibian Enebeli, has charged parents to do all things possible to encourage their wards to engage in sporting activities, just as she charged government at all levels to create an enabling environment for students to have the spirit of competition in the area of sports to produce talented sports men and women in Nigeria.
Mrs. Enebeli stated this at the school’s 13th biannual inter-house sports competition which was held recently.
She said the education of children cannot be completed without extra curricula activities such as sports, saying education is the total upbringing of the child.
She added:”The education of the child is the responsibility of the parents, schools and the government(s).”
According to her, inter-house sports competition such as this and sports generally, promote the spirit of cooperation and competition among students, adding that many people have also made it in life through sports.
Enebeli called on the Delta State government to build a standard stadium to stimulate students in sporting activities and promote competition among students.
She therefore charged parents to encourage their wards to engage in sporting activities to have total growth and development of their wards.
Mrs. Enebeli urged the students to reciprocate the gesture of whoever encourages them to engage in sports just as she admonished them to take their studies seriously as both complement each other for their total growth and development.
While expressing gratitude to God Almighty for the success of the ceremony for the day, she also thanked those who were able to grace the occasion despite their busy and tight schedule.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion and Proprietor of Arolly Schools, Warri, Hon. Roland Atsiangbe, said the standard of education is high in Nigeria, but quickly added that there is still room for improvement.
He said the emergence of private schools in Nigeria has really boosted the standard of education in the country and appealed to the government(s) to encourage private schools by reducing taxes levied on them to enable them (private schools) do well.
He said: “Since it is no news that the private schools have really partnered with government to raise the standard of education, l appeal to government(s) to reduce taxes paid by private schools to enable them discharge their duties effectively.”
The inter- house sports competition which was attended by captains of the education industry and featured various field and track events, saw Ekebe (Pink) House come out first position with 205 points, Prince Eromosele (Blue) House, second with 133 points, Odibo (Green) House, third with 119 points and Anifowoshe (Red) House fourth with 107 points.
