Oharisi: Stop Playing Politics With People’s Health, UPU Youthwing Tells Rumormongers
By Daniel Dafe
The President of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Youthwing, Worldwide, Comrade Efemena Umukoro, has said that the news report that said the Member representing Ughelli North Constituency II in the Delta State House of Assembly, Prince Eric Oharisi tested positive for Coronavirus is fake news.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Tuesday confirmed an index case of COVID-19 in Delta, and rumours quickly went round that the index case was the State Assembly member.
In a statement made available to journalists, the Urhobo youth leader, wondered why people will play politics with the health of another.
He said: “I have spoken with the lawmaker, an illustrious Urhobo son and he is in good health and wonders where this came from.
“Urhobo youths condemn this act and consider it as barbaric and we call on the peddlers of this rumour to desist from such acts.
“People must understand that they are first Urhobos before they became politicians in Ughelli North. The disease does not know any political party or tribe. As Urhobos, we do not wish or pray that any Urhobo indigene dies or is a victim of Coronavirus.”
“We frown at the act in totality. It is condemnable and barbaric and we advice such persons to desist from this. We remain committed to praying and looking out for one another, even as we wait for help to come our way in tackling the outbreak in our nation,” he added.
