Sapele Rotary Club Supports DTSG’s Fight Against COVID-19

Rotary Club, Sapele Urban, District 9141 of Nigeria, has donated medical kits such as nose masks, hand gloves, sanitizers, liquid detergents, buckets and others to hospitals including public health centers in Sapele local government area to support Delta State Government’s efforts in ameliorating the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic, also known as COVID-19.
The leader of Sapele Rotary Club, Mr. Tony Ubah, Assistant Governor, District 9141, Zone 5, Sapele Urban, who led the team throughout the distribution exercise, said their contributions in the fight against COVID-19 is one of the areas they can help the society in a moment like this.
Mr. Ubah told the Medical Director, Dr. Ogbimi Benedict at the Central Hospital, Sapele, that the distribution of the items is their way of helping the needy and the vulnerable ones in the society.
He said: “Before now, we have been donating books, benches, chairs and other learning materials to schools. We are also involved in other humanitarian activities to the society.
“We are aware of the global pandemic nature of this disease and how far it has affected the country as a whole, hence on our own, we decided to come out to donate this items to support the government and the less privileged persons.
“We are happy that this hospital and the state have not recorded any case since the beginning of the problem across the world.”
The trio of Dr. Ogbimi Benedict, Medical Director Central Hospital Sapele, Mrs. Oke Blessing, Matron Public Health Center, Gana, Sapele and Mrs. Owe Oghenenyerhovwo, the Nurse in charge of the Amukpe Health center, expressed their profound appreciation to Rotary Sapele Urban for their kind gesture in donating the items to their health centers and hospital.
Dr. Ogbimi whose hospital was the first beneficiary of the day, explained that Rotary was the first set of institution that remembered them since the incidence of Covid-19 began, assuring that the items would be put into proper use so that the aim of the giver will be accomplished.
He added: “We will work very hard in synergy with government to ensure government and the efforts of Rotary in the fight against COVID -19 are achieved.”
The President of Rotary Club, Sapele Urban, District 9141, Rtn Roseline Agogo, Rotarian Emmanuel Adidi, Rotarian Julius Eguvwebere, President Elect, in separate interviews after the distribution exercise, commended the management of the health centers they visited for their cooperation during the distribution exercise.
They explained that Rotary club is a humanitarian organisation whose aim is doing good and meeting the needs of humanity at all times especially in a time like this when people across the world are in dire need of assistance occasioned by COVID-19.
The President Elect, Rtn Eguvwebere, appreciated the efforts of members who made themselves available for the exercise, praying that their efforts will not be in vain, but they will be richly rewarded by God Almighty.
He added: “I am using this medium to appeal to other corporate bodies, non-governmental organizations and well placed individuals in assisting the government in meeting the needs of the less privileged ones in this trying period of our history because government cannot do it alone.”
