Court Judgment: Presidency Reacts To 26-Year Jail Term For Abductor Of Ese Oruru

New Media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has condemned the action of Dahiru Yunusa who eloped with a 13-year-old Urhobo girl in 2015 and was handed a 26-year-jail term by a Federal High Court in Bayelsa State on Thursday.

Ahmad, said he had earlier commented on the Yunusa Yellow saga but he later understood the details and gravity of the offence of the young man, hence he changed his mind.

He twitted on Friday night that eloping or rather kidnapping a minor and forcing her to marry the abductor is a great offence and should not be taken lightly, describing it as a condemnable act.

His tweet reads: “I commented on the Yunusa Yellow saga earlier, without knowing and understanding the details of the case. Eloping or rather, kidnapping a minor and forcing her to marry you shouldn’t be taken lightly. A condemnable act!”

His reaction followed the arrest and final judgment banishing him to prison for the next 26 years by a Federal High court in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.

Miss Ese Oruru, who was brought back to Yenagoa after the controversy has since, however, given birth to a baby girl belonging to Yinusa, his abductor.

Yunusa, popularly known as Yellow, was subsequently arrested and arraigned at the Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa and on a five-count charge of criminal abduction, illicit sex, sexual exploitation and unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor.

The judgment was delivered by Justice Jane Inyang and Yunusa was sentenced to five years for count 2, seven years for count 3, 4 and 5.

Yunusa, who appeared in court in handcuffs in a green and white shirt and bathroom slippers, broke down in court after the sentencing, and murmured that he was “treated this way because he is a Muslim.”
