A former police Area Commander in Ughelli, Late ACP Usman Ndanbaba, has been described as a quintessential police officer who always stood for what was right and protected the rights of everyone during his tenure before he was assassinated three years ago.

This eulogy was contained in a tribute in remembrance of the police officer by the National President of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Youthwing, Worldwide, Comrade Efemena Umukoro, made available to journalists.

It will be recalled that ACP Danbabnwo was murdered by unknown gunmen in Ughelli while driving home.

The said tribute read in part: “Today makes it exactly three years we lost a gallant police Area Commander, a crime buster and a friend to Urhobo Nation.

“He was the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Ughelli at the time that Abraka and its environs were under the command.

“As the Area Commander then, the crime rate was reduced to the barest minimum; fundamental rights of Urhobo youths and people were highly respected. He was indeed a friend and brother to the Urhobo people.

“His death took the Urhobo ethnic group by surprise. We were shocked and confused. But we understand that in the race of life we cannot question God about the decisions He makes, but we continue to give Him thanks.”

While condoling with the Commissioner of Police, CP Hafiz Inuwa and his men in the state, likewise with the family of the deceased, he prayed that the slain police officer’s assailants know no peace even in death.

Speaking further, he said that cultism is the bedrock of every other crime in the society.

He urged parents, guardians and religious leaders to come together to continue to sensitize youths on the dangers of cultism.

“Cultism has eaten the fabric of the society and it is the responsibility of every stakeholder to see what we can all do to stop cultism in our environment.

“Two days ago, I was in the office of the Ughelli Area Commander, ACP Lawal Shinkafi to discuss the same issue of cultism and how we can collaborate with them and other stakeholders to see how we can address this danger of cultism that is eating the fabric of the society,” he said.

He continued: “He assured me that cult clashes have been brought to its barest minimum and that since he assumed office just one case of cult clash has been reported to him and that it was nipped in the bud and since then there has been no other case.”

Furthermore, the youth leader said Urhobo youths will continue to partner with other stakeholders in the area in nation building, fighting crime and criminality and towards building a peaceful Delta Central.
