The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, may be considering rescending his earlier decision to resign his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest for the governorship seat in the state.
In a tweet about an hour ago, Obaseki said: “I have not moved to a new platform yet to seek re-election. My focus now is to control the spread of the coronavirus (#COVID19) pandemic, which is ravaging our country and threatening our healthcare system. Stay safe.”
The said tweet may have been influeneced by the National party’s chairman’s loss yesterday at the Court of Appeal where his suspension as Chairman was upheld.
Abiola Ajimobi was yesterday night announced as the acting National Chairman of the APC by the party.
Obaseki’s earlier tweet yesterday confirming his decision to part ways with the APC read: “I have officially resigned my membership of the All Progressives Congress (@OfficialAPCNg) after meeting with the CoS to @MBuhari.
“We shall continue the battle to protect the interest of Edo people and sustain good governance in the state.”
Obaseki, also while responding to questiins from journalists yesterday said that in the coming days he will disclose the new platform that he will be seeking re-election from.
Edo’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaiub may also have been caught in the web as he followed suit and declared in a press conference that he has also left the APC, and even went on to remove the party’s flag from his office.
However, feelers from Oshiomole’s camp reveal that the last of the issue on his suspension as party chairman is yet to be heard.
Political observers expect a counter move by Oshiomole today to secure his seat as party chairman.
