Egedegbe’s Release By His Kidnappers Is A Victory For Urhobo Nation—UPU Youthwing President

-Ohoror Community Hosts, Commends Youth Body

The President of Urhobo Progress Union, Youthwing, Worldwide, Comrade Efemena Umukoro, has said that the release of the youth president of Ohoroh Community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Comrade Alex Egedegbe, aka Sabgoga, by his kidnappers meant victory for Urhobo Nation.
Egedegbe was kidnapped on Tuesday night and released unhurt on Saturday night.
Speaking to journalists after he visited the released youth leader yesterday at his residence in Ughelli where the executive members of the youth body were hosted and appreciated by Ohoror Community for the role they played in securing the release of their son, Umukoro said during the visit, it was a time of singing praises and dancing to God for the safe release of a vibrant Urhobo youth from the den of kidnappers.
His words: “A few days ago, one of our vibrant and articulate community youth presidents was kidnapped. He is from the same community, Uwheru, where about 10 of our youths were recently massacred.
“Egedegbe was kidnapped by 15 able bodied Fulani Herdsmen. His experience in the hands of the kidnappers is a touching one.
“We took an oath to protect and defend Urhobo youths and give them a voice they can trust. As soon as he was kidnapped, I directed the Secretary of the UPU Youthwing to direct all the representatives of the youth body in the 24 kingdoms to relocate to Ughelli until we are able to rescue our brother unhurt.
“This administration is built on God’s principles and knows that if God does not get involved in security, the watchman watches in vain. So, I had to contact the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and a cleric in Abraka, Rev. Godwin Omegwe of Omega Baptist Church. Immediately, the youth body declared a 7-day fast and prayed that God should cause confusion in the camp of the kidnappers.
“In our brother’s testimony, he said at a point, the kidnappers fought themselves because of him. This certainly was a response to our prayers.
“The joy now of the community is a testimony that the executive of UPU Youthwing is walking the talk, because we promised to change the narrative.”
Speaking further, he commended the Delta Police Command under the watchful eyes of the Commissioner of Police, CP Hafiz Inuwa, Ughelli Area Commander, Lawan Shinkafi, OC Eagle Net, Usman Dimka, Coordinator, Eagle Net, Ughelli and the DPO Ughelli, as he appreciated members of the vigilante in the community for their role also in securing the release of Egedegbe.
Furthermore, he called on the Delta State Government to investigate the activities of Ogor Community in Delta Central.
“The Ogor market is now a criminal hideout for Fulani herdsmen. Indigenes of Ogor Community have accepted the Fulani herdsmen and this is a threat to the security of our people in Delta Central. I tried to reach the President General of the community but could not.
“If the state government must stop the constant kidnap of our people in Delta Central then Ogor Community must be investigated. It is better to stop a crime from happening than running around when a crime takes place.
“Ogor Community is sitting on a timed bomb and if we don’t act fast, it will consume us.
According to him, the release of the kidnapped youth leader shows that the enemy is closer than they thought.
He continued: “The experience of our brother in the hands of the kidnappers was horrible. His phones were not given back to him. He was kidnapped alongside his girlfriend and they both were released. The poor girl is receiving treatments at an hospital at the moment. The kidnappers made him trek every night while he was still in their custody from 12 p.m to 4a.m. Egedegbe’s account shows that the Fulani herdsmen were armed to the teeth.
“After a long trek, the Fulani herdsmen escorted the two of them and led them to Ogor Community where they left them.
“Ogor Community has been a flash point in Delta Central. The leader of Ogor Community should be called for questioning. I think the same way Abraka market in Asaba was destroyed is the same way the government should focus on Ogor market.
Meanwhile, Comrade Umukoro commended the President General of UPU, Chief (Engr.) Joe Omene for the moral support and encouragement so far, adding that without his cooperation, the youth body will not record the success they are having.
Continuing, he called on all Urhobo youths to feel free to report to the executive of UPU youthwing any injustice in their area, as they will respond speedily to nip it in the bud.
