The Deputy Senate President (DSP) and Member representing Delta Central in the Red Chambers, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has come under fire after he posted on his Facebook page the visit by Senators to Orji Uzor Kalu.

It will be recalled that the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan led Senate delegation on solidarity visit to Orji Kalu after his release from Kuje correctional facility on Thursday.

The former governor of Abia state has been incarcerated at Kuje Medium Custodial Centre since December 5, 2019 following his conviction and sentencing to 12 years imprisonment.

He was convicted of N7.1bn fraud with his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited, and a former Director of Finance at the Abia State Government House, Jones Udeogu. However, the Supreme Court, ruling on an appeal filed by his co-defendant, quashed the trial on the grounds of lack of jurisdiction.

Agege in his post said: “The leadership of the Nigerian Senate paid a visit to the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu at his Abuja residence.” Some pictures from the visit were also attached to the said post.

While a few of the over 100 Facebook users that commented on the post commended the lawmakers and Senator Agege for the visit, others wondered why the Delta Federal lawmaker would be part of the arrangement.
