Udu: Don’t Bury Your Dead On Our Land, Ekperuvwe Warns Odiete

The family of Ekperuvwe of Oghworhor Quarters in Ovwian in Udu Local Government Area have warned the family of Odiete also in Udu Local Government Area, both of Delta State not to bury late Mrs Margaret, Shunashu Idiemiruaye, saying Ekperuvwe’s family have no blood relationship or any relationships with the Odiete’s family.

In a statement jointly signed by an elder of the Ekperuvwe”s family, S.P.O. Ovie, and Chairman, Bossman Omoghele and other principal members who are: Puis Gbikeke, Felix Owhofareya and John Ikpogbe and made available to newsmen recently in Udu Local Government Area, Delta State, warned that the Odiete family especially, Paul Odiete and Michael Odiete must rescind their proposed plan to bury late Mrs Margaret Shunashu Idiemiruaye Odiete on their(Ekperuvwe”s) family land, adding that they are not of the same family.

Ekperuvwe said Odiete family should remove the name of Ekperuvwe which they jointly wrote in the burial invitation card for the deceased.

In a brief history of how Ekperuvwe’s family is not related to Odiete’s family, the statement said Kproko’s father is from Diamond family in Uduvwogba Quarters in Ekete Inland while his mother, Ukoghor is from Ekrimowhe Quarters, Ovwian.

Kproko married two wives, the first being Yovwin while the second wife, Nogho. It said Yovwin”s father is from Orhuwhorun and the mother is Igbogidi. It also said Nogho”s father is from Ozimi Quarters in Ovwian by name Egbe whiile her mother is from lbikorogha in Ijaw riverine area.

The statement added that Kproko begot Jite through Yovwin, the first wife while Kproko begot Sosorobia,Shunashu, Augustine and Grace through Nogho. It added that kropoko only came into the Ekperuvwe”s family through Owhoavbodiame,daughter of Oko Ekperuvwe who went to marry in Ekete Inland but had no child on her way back to her farther compound Oko Ekperuvwe.

It added that Kproko followed her to Ekperuvwe family compound has, saying that he (Kproko) was a loyal servant to Owhoavbodiame.

The statement said Kproko and his family nerver related to Ekperuvwe family at all and they have no right to Ekperuvwe landed properties in Oghworhor Quarters in Owvian.

The statement reads in part: “Your family have no affiliation or blood relation with our family and you
are warned not to get near our land talk less of burrying late Mrs Margaret Shunashu Idiemiruaye Odiete in our land.

The statement said it is unheard of especially in Urhobo tradition for a stranger to be buried in one’s owned land.

They therefore warned Odiete family to steer clear of their community.
