NBA Conference: Sanusi Faults Withdrawal Of Governor El-Rufai’s Invitation
A former emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi has faulted the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) for withdrawing an invitation previously extended to Governor Nasir El-rufai of Kaduna state to attend its annual general conference.
He spoke on the issue after a meeting he had with El-Rufai at the government house in Kaduna state, The Cabel reported.
The former emir argued that if the NBA felt the Kaduna governor was not doing well, it should have invited the governor to its conference to avail him of the opportunity to explain himself. According to the former emir, the NBA could have used El-Rufai’s invitation as an avenue to tell the governor what he was doing wrong. He said the association could learn from the governor and that the governor could also learn from the NBA.
Sanusi described El-Rufai as someone who some people call controversial because he expresses his views very clearly. He pointed out that people may not like the way the governor expresses his views on matters but noted that being controversial is actually having an opinion.

Sanusi advised the NBA not to allow the reactions that trailed the withdrawal of El-Rufai’s invitation to degenerate into another crisis.
Meanwhile, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has reacted to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA)’s withdrawal of its invitation of Governor Nasir El-Rufai to its 2020 Annual General Conference (AGC).
MURIC in a statement signed by its director on Friday, August 21, Professor Ishaq Akintola, described the NBA’s action as “parochial, myopic and jejune. The Islamic human rights organisation said the withdrawal of El-Rufai’s invitation exposed the NBA’s impatience, intolerance and self-conceit.
