Ughelli: Afiesere Community Swears In New Executive Amidst Legal Challenge

As part of efforts to move Afiesere community in Ughelli North LGA of Delta State to a greater height, the newly elected executive members to pilot the affairs of the commumity for a period of four (4) years have been sworn in with a charge to work for the unity and progress of the community. 

However, the swearing-in was done inspite of a subsisting court order restraining the swearing-in from holding.

At the time of the swearing-in, the High Court order was yet to be vacated.

Those sworn in to pilot the afairs of the oil-rich community for a period of four (4),years are, Hon. Richard O. Aduvie (President), Chief Shekaleke Okiemute (Vice President), Hon. Lucky Oley (Sec Gen.), Hon. Otuoku Matthew (Treasurer), Hon. Sunday Amereka (Fin. Sec), Hon. Lucky Ikporo (PRO), Hon. Philip Awhere (Assist. Sec), Hon. Joseph Odoko (Org. Sec.), Hon. Francis Obire ((Auditor).

While performing  the swearing in ceremony which took place at the community town hall on the 12th of August 2020, Archbishop Dr. Sodje Efeoghene Wilfred charged them to rule the community according to the will of God so as to  ensure success at the end

Earlier in his opening speech, the chairman of the electoral committee, Mr Ezewu Thomas said, we are here today to swear-in the newly elected executive of Afiesere community after the conduct of an  election in which they were declared winner, adding they pilot the affairs of the community, they need to abide by the rules and regualtions of the community.

However, the President General of Ughelli Descendant Union (UDU), Chief Pius Omubaye who was also on ground to witness the ceremony on behalf of Ughelli kingdom in his address called on the new executive to enusre unity in their administration.

According to him, “you should run the government according to the community constitution, don’t see the position as an employment opportunity where there is a report of embezzlement of the community resources but you must see it as a call to serve.

In his acceptance speech, the new President Hon. Ovwreghwrederohwo Richard Aduvie, on behalf of his exco members, thanked the members of the electoral committee and the outgone president, Victor Otumemine for their efforts over the swearing in ceremony, assuring the people of the community of a transparent administration.
