Concerned Comrades of the Delta State Chapter of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights,CDHR today upheld the suspension of the National Vice President, Comrade Prince Kehinde Taiga from office for one year.

Taiga was suspended by the National President, Dr.Osagie Obayuwana, it was learnt.

While noting that the CDHR would continue to be the foremost human rights organization in the country and beyond, the comrades said,”We shall continue to wipe out the bad eggs in the system as we entrench the creed and principles of justice, the world over.”

The Comrades who backed the National President over the said suspension of its Vice President made the assertion in a statement signed by Israel Joe.

According to the comrades,”the president who acted on the report of the three-man committee set up Delta State stakeholders has taken a very good step in the right direction.

“We cannot claim to speak for the oppressed while we harbour corrupt officials in our midst,” they said.

“The former Vice President in the person of Comrade Prince Kehinde Taiga was accused and indicted by the committee report for highhandedness, embezzlement of public funds, providing covering (membership) for internet fraudsters, constitutional breaches and acts of indiscipline. This, we know and have evidence for which the committee acted.

“Those comrades and few members of NEC supporting Comr. Taiga, and, in the guise to make him escape justice, thereby accusing the National President of not giving financial account to the organization, could best be described as the last cry of drowning men,” thry added.

In a swift reaction, the embattled CDHR National Vice President, Comrade Prince Kehinde Taiga said no individual has the constitutional right to speak on CDHR’s matters let alone upholding his one year suspension from office by the President, Dr. Osagie Obayuwana.

He said: “They don’t have the right. The constitution of the CDHR states that any decision that must be taken must include simple majority. And that’s the reason the suspension by the President could not hold because it was not done by a simple majority. It was done in his (President) own selfish interests.”

Taiga accused Comrade Israel Joe of making frivolous and fictitious publications because of his ambition to become the next Secretary in the next executive of the CDHR at the State level.

He said Joe who wants to come in unopposed does not want to contest for the position in an election be cause he is afraid of election.

According to Taiga,”All he (Israel Joe) is trying to do is to destroy the organization; all I have suffered to build for the past three (3) and half years that I was in office as Chairman in the State.”

Taiga noted that the President, Dr. Osagie Obayuwana could not conduct elections in Edo State, his own land where the present Exco had served for over eight years instead of the four year duration.

The embattled CDHR national Vice President said the National President, Dr. Obayuwana is not capable of being a leader in his own State let alone the national body.

In his words,”By the CDHR Constitution, the Edo State Exco ought to have been dissolved by now and a caretaker committee put in place. This he didn’t do. He has no influence in his own State but he is trying to cause crisis in the organization.

“He was not supposed to be National President. He was not qualified to contest at the national election. I was begged to step down for him. So, I pity him. All the politics he is playing is for him to return for a second term in office so he could continue to cover past president’s atrocities. But we will see to the end of the matter because EFCC and ICPC must come so that justice must be served.”
