Some concerned residents in Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area, have appealed to the Warri/Uvwie Urban Renewal Development Agency to build a pedestrian bridge across the Warri / Effurun Express Way by the flyover.

Those who spoke to our correspondent include motorists and pedestrians.

One of them, Mr Onajemo Ejaife, asserted that the road was a death trap to pedestrians that cross the roads undermining the dangers of speeding vehicles and that some persons mostly commercial motorcycle (okada) and their passengers die in avoidable accidents.

Speaking in the same vein, Mrs Alice Otemiewo, noted that the usage of the area as vehicle parks by commercial motorcycle riders (okada), commercial tricycle (keke) riders and commercial bus (kpelegbe) drivers also constitute a danger as she said that some of the riders and drivers do their businesses with impunity in the middle of the road not minding the presence of other road users.

“So, the agency constructing the gutter on the express way should please give the building of a pedestrian bridge in this area, a food for thought in order to save lives. A stitch in time saves nine.”

While Mr Felix Jemide in his opinion, said that traders doing business under the flyover should be asked to vacate the area as he noted that they were attracting people to the area in their numbers on daily bases even during odd hours.

He further called on the authorities concerned to implement the ban on okada and keke from the express way in order to avoid avoidable accidents.
