COVID-19 Did Not Kill Our Finance Director– N’D Ministry
…Akpabio Pays Condolence Visit To Deceased Family
By Matthew Ogune, Abuja
Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs has debunked claims on social media that it’s Director, Finance and Administration, Mr. Moses Okpo died due to complications arising from Covid-19.
The Ministries director of press, Deworitshe Patricia, who debunked this claim yesterday (Monday) in Abuja, noted: “The attention of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs has been drawn to a mischievous news item making the rounds in the internet on the unfortunate death of the Director, Finance and Administration at the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Moses Okpo”
“While we share our prayers and thoughts with the family of Mr. Okpo as conveyed by the Hon. Minister, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. (Obong) Godswill Akpabio CON during a condolence visit to the bereaved family on August 31, 2020.

“We want to state categorically that there is no means between the death of Mr. Okpo and that of the former Executive Director of Finance and Administration of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Ibanga Etang who had since been buried in Akwa Ibom State having been confirmed that he died due to complications arising from Covid-19.
“We also wish to state that the picture being circulated as that of the deceased is wrong and misleading as the picture is that of the current Director, Human Resources (DHR) of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Musa Dakas and not that of the late Mr. Okpo.”
Patricia urged the general public to access the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs website-www.nigerdelta.gov.ng for correct information and picture about the activities of the Ministry.
Meanwhile, Akpabio, on Monday 31, August 2020, paid a condolence visit to the family of late Okpo.
Moses Okpo demise was announced at the weekend having been hospitalized for some time in Abuja.
Akpabio who expressed shock at the death of the former DFA, noted that it was difficult for him to visit the family at a time like this, other than for social reasons.
While consoling the wife and the immediate family of the late DFA, he urged the family to take solace in God Almighty the great provider, for the loss if a friend and companion.
He said the high powered delegation from the Ministry which includes the out-going Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olusade Adesola the in-coming PS, Dr. Babayo Kumo Ardo and the Directors, is to appreciate Mr. Moses Okpo’s diligent services not just to the Ministry but to the civil service and the bation at large.
According to the MNDA boss, the former DFA was a very humble and peace loving man who was always up and doing in his schedule of duties.
“The Ministry shares in your sorrow and moment of grief and we are very saddened by his demise”, he said.
The Minister while reassuring Mrs. Okpo of the Ministry’s support prayed that God would add to the years of those he has left behind and continue to care for the immediate family.
