Idjerhe Monarch To Get Staff Of Office On Monday

The Delta State Government have shifted the presentation of Staff of Office to His Royal Majesty, King Obukowho Monday Whiskey, Udurhie 1 to Monday October 26, 2020.

This development was as a result of the 48-hour state-wide curfew declared by the Delta State Government due to the ENDSARS protest across the state.

The state government had earlier fixed Friday, October 23 for the ceremony.

Palace correspondent, Nelson Agbajor, gathered that the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, may personally present the Staff of Office to the traditional ruler at Idjerhe Grammar School in Jesse, the traditional headquarters of Idjerhe kingdom, by 10am prompt.

Also expected to attend the royal ceremony are; the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege; the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori and a host of other dignitaries including traditional rulers from and beyond the state.

The Delta State Government had earlier approved the selection and appointment of Udurhie 1 as Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom.

The new Idjerhe monarch until his enthronement was a senior journalist and former South-South Editor of the National Daily Newspaper.

His selection came after months of traditional processes between contenders for the revered Idjerhe stool.

Udurhie 1 emerged almost two years after His Royal Majesty, Edward Igho Otadaferua, Erhiekevwe 1, joined his ancestors in 2018.

The new traditional ruler, who had his first and second degrees in Mass Communication, is a current PhD student at the Delta State University, Abraka.

Idjerhe Kingdom is the second largest Urhobo kingdom with over forty communities and rich in crude oil production.

The new Idjerhe king is a reputable and fearless journalist with over three decades of active journalism practice where he rose through the rank to become South-South Regional Editor of National Daily Newspaper.

He was the first Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the pioneer executive chairman of Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC) between 2007 and 2010.
