BREAKING: IGP Promotes 82, 779 Police Officers

About 82,779 junior Police officers have been promoted to the next rank by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.

The IGP also promoted 87 officers, of which 16 were officers who died as a result of the violence that emanated from the #ENDSARS protest, they received a special posthumous promotion, while the other 70 officers were those who suffered one injury or the other.

Force Public Relations Officer, (FPRO) DCP Frank Mba, made this disclosure on November 23, 2020, in Abuja.

CRIMECHANNELS learnt that the promotion of the officers which comprises of 56,779 Sergeants to Inspectors, 17,569 Corporal to Sergeants and 8,431 Constables to Corporal is aimed at boosting the moral of the officers.

The IGP, while congratulating the newly promoted officers, charged the men to see their promotion as an additional responsibly.

He urged the officers to continue to carry out their duties diligently and in conformity with best practices and respect for the rights of the citizens.

He also said that the posthumous promotion given to officers that died during the #endsars protect were in recognition of the ultimate price they paid in rendering their service to the nation.

The IGP also assured citizens that it will continue to work with other relevant security agencies, organs of government and other stakeholders. He said that the aim of collaborating with these agencies is not only about driving a successful reform of Police in the country, but also to be able to create a responsive Police that will be able to provide adequate security for all its citizens.
