NYSC: Delta Swears-in 738 Corps Members For 2020 Batch B

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC Delta State has inducted 738 corps members into the Scheme for the 2020 Batch B Stream 1A.

Declaring the camp open after the necessary induction ceremonies, the Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa ably represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development, Comrade Ifeanyi Egwunyenga urged the corps members and camp officials to continue to abide by the camp and NCDC official guidelines on Covid-19, adding that with strong determination and strict observance, the country would defeat the scourge.

The Governor informed the corps members of the enormous potentials that abound in Delta and waiting to be tapped, urging them to seize the opportunity.

He encouraged them to utilize the period of orientation available for them to prepare themselves for the unique opportunity of being deployed to Delta State.

Okowa also enjoined the corps members to exhibit the highest level of loyalty, dedication, discipline and commitment to the nation; advising them further to abandon any unhelpful conduct that panders towards unsavoury reputation.

In his capacity as the Chairman of the Governing Board of NYSC, the Secretary to Delta State Government, Chiedu Ebie Esq. assured of effective liaison with Government and other agencies to bring meaningful development to the Scheme.

He said the apparatus of Government headed by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has a pride of place for the welfare and security of the corps members, urging them to bury all fears and anxiety over what the service year holds for them.

Congratulating the corps members for a successful induction ceremony, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Olutayo Samuel said, this Batch of corps members was unique being the first set of corps members since the abrupt shut down of camp activities in March 2020 due to Covid-19, indicating it was worthy to praise God for.

She said that to comply with NCDC official guidelines, the NYSC had to set up Vanguard for Covid-19 – a group that goes round the camp to ensure corps members, officials of NYSC and visitors observe the Covid-19 protocols.

Samuel therefore, commended the Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for his numerous supports to the Scheme, including the multipurpose hall he started on the 1st April, 2020 and now at the final stage of completion.

The Coordinator further encouraged the corps members to take their Orientation Programme seriously, maintaining that this was a good opportunity to showcase their leadership skills and build a positive mindset for their future.

“The Orientation Course which is a cardinal programme of the Scheme will last for three weeks, having been fully planned for with packages to train and equip our corps members for the one year compulsory national service. There will be lectures on national values, culture and tradition of the people of Delta State, security, ideals of NYSC and its operations and many more. There will also be Skills Acquisition Training and Entrepreneurship Development to expose these corps members to different sets of Skills and Entrepreneurship programmes so they can be self employed and employers of labour. My dear corps members, I urge you all to embrace this opportunity”, Samuel posited.
