Police Arrest Seven Suspected Cultists In Ikorodu

…..Recovers Machetes, Charms, Others

The police in Lagos State has confirmed the arrest of seven suspected members of Eiye Confraternity at Agura, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The arrest was made at the weekend, by Policemen attached to Imota Division, Ikorodu.

Giving the details of the arrests, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the said suspected cultists went to attack the officials of a local vigilance group, popularly called Agbekoya, in the area on the same date to revenge the recent arrest or attack on one of their group members by the vigilante group thereby causing varying degrees of injuries on the vigilance officials by using machetes and guns.

The suspected cultists arrested include Abolaji Arbayo, male, 21, Josiah Offem, male, 37 and Oluwapelumi Oyeyinka, male 25.

Others are Kamidi Taofeeq, male, 41, Ahmed Shittu,male, 48 (driver of their operational vehicle), Zainab Nurudeen, female, 20 (the armourer who sources for guns to operate) and Rabiu Ganiyu, male, 25 among others.

According to him, others who were in possession of their dangerous weapons, fled the scene on sighting the Police.

Items recovered from them include machetes and some charms, a green Paragon bus with number plate LAGOS APP 600 XA that was used by the suspects for their operations.

While investigations are ongoing, the Commissioner of Police has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department, C.I.D Panti for proper investigations as well as sending signals to other cultists and men of the under world that Lagos State will no more be a safe haven for them to operate or hibernate.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Hakeem Odumosu therefore ordered the Department of Operations to reduce his directives on anti crime strategies of the Command into a signal and circulate same to all Police stations and formations in the Command for strict compliance with immediate effect.

Similarly, he reiterated that fighting cultism is essential to fighting and curbing crimes and criminality in Lagos state.

The CP said this on Sunday, in his Ikeja office while reviewing, with the staff officers and sectional heads at the command Headquarters, the strategies being put in place by the Command to curb crimes and criminality, especially cultism and hooliganism, in the State.
