A UK-based Nigerian lecturer, Dipo Awojide, has questioned the appointment of former Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) housemates into political positions especially by state governments, Legitng reports.

Awojide while stating his stand on the subject maintained that he has a liking for many of the reality stars but wonders why Nigerians celebrate their political appointments.

The lecturer wondered if the housemates possess the necessary qualifications and level of competence to help them executive the roles.

“I like many of these BBNaija folks but I don’t know why many of you are celebrating state governments dishing out Senior Special Assistant appointments. SSA on what exactly? And why? Do these reality tv stars have the qualification and competence? We’ve got a long long way to go.”

The post garnered mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media.

A Twitter user who attempted to defend the appointments wrote:

“Well, I get you, bro. But the fact that someone appeared on a reality show doesn’t make them less intelligent than others Secondly, they are influencers now, and have a massive impact on the youths. There’s really nothing wrong in handing them positions if they are qualified.”

Another user said:

“The last time I checked most of these BBnaija housemates are Graduates and these positions given to them are not pivotal to government policymaking. Dr, funny enough, these guys are even more witty and qualified than our leaders, if thoroughly examined.”

The lecturer’s observations come shortly after two Lockdown edition housemates bagged appointments with the Bayelsa government.

Legit.ng reported that Trikytee took to social media to share the news that he got appointed as a senior special assistant for the Bayelsa state governor. His announcement came shortly after Nengi was also given the same appointment with the governor of Bayelsa.
