Sapele Area Command: PCRC Holds End Of Year Security Town Hall Meeting

Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Sapele Area Command, Delta State, in collaboration with Chief (Amb.) Dr. Odet Odjuvwumiderhi (JP) (aka Madam Bravo), Executive Assistant to the Governor on Police Relations and Hon. Tony Edafiogho, SSA to the Governor on Security & Intelligence Gathering recently held the second edition of the end of year security town hall meeting alongside her end of year party.

The occasion which was chaired by the Chairman, PCRC, Delta State, Amb. Marshall Prosper Ojoh, with theme: ‘Partnership that Promotes Adequate Community Policing/Unveling of 2021 Calender,’ took place at Bravo Event Hall, Abraka.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Chairman, PCRC, Sapele Area Command, Comrade Oliver Eyefia in his address said the PCRC is the bridge between the police and the host community, adding that the day’s lecture titled ‘Partnership for Adequate Community Policing’ was timely because of recent happenings in the nation, citing the EndSARS protests.

Speaking about achievements, he said that his administration from December 2019 till date has recorded a few success stories despite the COVID-19 challenge.

“We were able to provide sanitizers, buckets and liquid wash as well as stickers to the Police Area Command and some Divisions during the COVID-19 pandemic, held all our monthly meetings, honoured 82 persons with awards, assisted the Area Commander to give a befitting welcome to the CP’s wife during her visit to the Command and invested 22 patrons to enhance our support base,” he said.

Furthermore, he said under his executive, all the Divisions in the Command now have a fully activated PCRC, including the recently inaugurated Oghara Divison.

Earlier, the chairman of the occasion, Amb. Ojoh, said there is a misconception in the public place about community policing.

According to him, “community policing in the simplest terms means the police are the public and the public are the police.”

The lecture of the day was delivered by Egbadju Abraham, a lecturer in the Department of Political Science, Delta State University, Abraka.

Egbadju called for a reorientation, saying that was the community is disconnected from the police there will be issues.

Speaking further, he called on governments at all levels to make more funds available to aid the effectiveness of the police force, adding that they are the worst paid in the world.

High point of the occasion was the unveiling of the 2021 calender and its launch.

Dignitaries present at the programme included the National Vice Chairman of PCRC, South South, Deacon Kenneth Utunuonyo represented by Pastor Felix Omoruwou, ACP Sani Nufawa, Sapele Area Commander, represented by SP Samuel Onwualu, High Chief Felix Okotie, Spokesman, Oruarivie Abraka Kingdom, Chief (Dr.) Basil Iwhiwhu, Chief Godwin Onomuetor, Speaker, Elders’ Council, Umiaghwa Abraka Kingdom and CSP Aliyu Shaba, DPO, Abraka Division.
