WAFU Cup: Ghana Will Face The Real Eagles– Coach Atune

Coach of the Nigeria Flying Eagles, Jolomi Atune, has expressed confidence that the junior national team will come out strong when they face the WAFU Cup most successful team, the Black satellites of Ghana this Wednesday.

The Nigeria Under 20 Assistant Coach attributed the 89th minutes equalizer of the Ivoire Coast 1-1 draw to fatigue.

“My boys gave their best only that they could not sustain the 1-0 lead as a result of fatigue.

“We left Nigeria 10am on Saturday through Togo to Cotonou because of no direct fight.

“We landed 6:45pm on Saturday and played against a good Ivoirian side the following day,” he said.

The former Golden Eaglet Coach assured Nigerians that the best of youth football will be seen as Nigeria and Ghana renew their rivalry on Wednesday in the ongoing West Africa Football Union, WAFU Cup, in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

The Ghana Under 20 team have been crowned Champions twice to be the most successful WAFU Cup winner.

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have been to the finals of the WAFU Cup three times since it was re-established in 2002.

Nigeria hosted and won it in 2010, losing to Togo and Ghana in 2011 and 2017 respectively in the fifth successive year it has been hosted after it was abandoned for eight years.
