Police Confirms Killing Of Policeman, Soldier By Gunmen In Sapele

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a policeman and a military personnel by gunmen at a military checkpoint at Oton area of Sapele on Sunday night.
Oasis Magazine (OM) earlier reported that the dead security operatives were shot dead when armed bandits attacked the military post through the community river in speedboats.
Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident to NIGER DELTA TODAY Online on Monday.
Onovwakpoyeya said, “Two operatives were killed. We are investigating the incident.”
The Delta police imagemaker further stated that no one has been arrested in connection with the attack.

Community sources claimed the gunmen had stormed the community through the Oton River in Sapele to reportedly kidnap some prominent persons in the area.
It was learnt that the operatives were repelling the bandits when gunshots from the gunmen killed the government agents.
It was not clear if any of the bandits was killed during the onslaught but sources claimed the attack caused tension in the community.
Residents of the community revealed that military troops have been deplored to the area.
