Let’s Put Our House In Order Or Forget About 2023, Oghotoma Charges Delta SDP

Former aspirant for the 2019 governorship position in Delta State on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Sir Ohwo Benson Oghotoma popularly called OBO, has called on stakeholders in the party to come together and seek how to resolve the present crisis in the party.

Recall that a petition against Ambassador Oke Idawene has been sent to the national leadership, while Austine Okakor is said to have taken over from him to pilot the affairs of the party in the state.

Idawene was accused of highhandedness, embezzlement and anti-party activities, saying he was a friend to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking to Oasis Magazine during a telephone conversation, Sir Oghtoma stressed that the crisis in Delta SDP should not be seen as strange, adding that the ruling party in the state, PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have their own internal crisis at the moment.

According to him, SDP must put her house in order to receive defectors from PDP when the implosion finally happens.

Continuing, the outspoken politician said if SDP cannot put their house in order before 2022, then SDP should forget about 2023 in the state.

He said: “The National Working Committee in Abuja has invited the deposed state Chairman to appear before them on Wednesday, today is Friday. The reason for the invitation was not known but when the petitioner submitted the petition against him, they were assured that he will be invited and I think the invitation is not unconnected with the issue of party leadership in Delta State.”

Asked if he has confidence in the national leadership of the party to resolve the matter, he said yes, adding that he still has reservations until the outcome of the issue and the decision they take.

He continued: “Despite the crisis in the political party, the Okakor administration is still giving assistance to candidates that registered on the platform of the party. By next week some of them will start their flagoff especially in Isoko North where I come from and in Uvwie where I was born and brought up and some in other places and it is likely that I will be there.”

On the factionalisation of the party and a possible resultant poor performance during the forthcoming Delta council elections, he said: “We will win despite the little crisis we are having in the party.”

Speaking further, he said he is supporting Okakor on the ground that the party needs transparency in the state.

He urged candidates in the coming polls to continue with their programmes, adding that if he is officially invited by any candidate during their flagoff, he will be there especially if his security is guaranteed.

“I speak with almost all the candidates daily. Let’s all put hands together and resolve these issues. Let’s not consider the factional issue; let’s support the candidates irrespective of whose side they belong,” he opined.
