NOUN Study Centre Commissioned In Sapele

As part of efforts to enhance the quality and standard of education in the country and to bring education closer to the grassroots and rural areas, the Sapele Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigerian, NOUN, was today, February 8th, commissioned with a call for parents, guardians to embrace education as a tool and prerequisite in nation building.

Commissioning the University in Sapele, the Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria, Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, said that NOUN is a welcome development to the good people of Sapele Community, maintaining that the importance of education can never be over emphasized.

Prof. Adamu noted that the National Open University of Nigeria has various study centres across the country and as such, urged Sapele residents to avail themselves the opportunity and be part of the system, even as he expressed satisfaction to the management of Seplat for the gesture, and thanked the executive of Sapele Okpe/Community.

On his part, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, in his remarks, thanked the Management of the University, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Seplat management and Sapele/Okpe Community for a job well done.

The Commissioner noted that Government is impressed with the level of facilities for the take off of the University and as such urged Sapele residents to embrace education.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Sapele/Okpe Community, Dr. Patrick Akamovba while briefing newsmen shortly after the commissioning of the project, said that it is a new dawn for the good people of Sapele/Okpe Community.

Akamovba added that the NOUN achievement in Sapele was as a result of the synagy and understanding between the Moses Ogodo-led executive and Julius Egbedi as the then Sapele Local Government Chairman with a special appreciation to the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom.

On the sustainability and maintenance of the University, the Community Chairman, Akamovba said that measures have been put in place for both the Sapele Okpe Community and Seplat to maintain the facilities for a period of 12 months before fully handing over to the management of the National Open University.

Various dignitaries from both the palace of the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, political circle were present at the commissioning.

Among whom were: Prof. Sam Oyovbaire, Hon. Eugene Inoaghan, Chief Charles Obule , Prof. Nyenrowho Tonukari among others.
