Ogbein-Ama Federated Community In Bomadi LGA Raises Alarm, As Cholera Kills 2

Ogbein-Ama Federated Community in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State has called on relevant authorities to come to their aid, as cholera hits the community.

The Secretary-General of the community, Comrade Joseph Z Navy, in a statement made available to Oasis Magazine (OM), said the community needs urgent help.

According to him, so far, two persons have died as a result of the outbreak of the disease in the community.

He made this call after the death of one Mr. Moloria Otiki, adding that the cases could be traced to eating food or drinking water contaminated with a bacterium called Vibrio cholerae.

“It is also caused by poor environmental sanitation and uncooked food,” he added.

Comrade Joseph stressed that “it is apparent that poor drinking water is the cause of the present calamity in the community.”

“People in the community are drinking contaminated water from the river. This river is contaminated with faeces and all sorts of wastes, yet people still drink from that same river because they have no other choice.

“So many persons have been infected with the disease and this has claimed at least two lives and several persons have been hospitalized. And these cases are increasing day by day. If this appeal is ignored, we may likely lose more lives,” he said.
