SDP: State Chairman Tackles Akande, Assures Candidates Of Support In Delta Council Elections
By Daniel Dafe, Abraka
The Interim Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP in Delta State, Hon. Austin Oghogho Okakor, has said that Aondona Edmond Akande is an agent used by the sacked state chairman, Oke Idawene, to destabilize the new leadership of SDP in the state.
In a statement in reaction to a letter written by Akande, the new state chairman wondered why the said letter was delivered through Facebook to the current leadership of SDP Delta State if it was actually from SDP HORSE MASS MOVEMENT.
“Are we playing in SDP? No! It’s simply Oke’s arrangement,” he said.
He called on the general public, particularly SDP members and those from Delta State to disregard the purported letter written by Comr. Aondona Edmond in totality.
He added: “Abubakar Dogara was the Secretary to Oke IDAWENE. I know him very well. Oke IDAWENE is only using his name to carry out his nefarious acts just to blackmail the new leadership and Sir Oghotoma.”
According to Hon. Okakor, if the letter is from Abubakar Dogara it will not be delivered through Facebook to a party leadership, saying that “on this note, the letter, the purported writer and the content should be disregarded.”
He continued: “Horse movement as it’s referred to has no power to give any directives but advisory roles. We have moved on already and nothing, no power will reverse Oke IDAWENE’s removal.”
Continuing, he said that “the national leadership has been duly notified in principle and waiting for the official letter communication.”
“It’s only the National Secretary, Chairman and the Publicity Secretary that are vested with powers to address the interim leadership of SDP Delta State led by my humble self, Hon Okakor Oghogho Austine.”

On the March 6 council elections in the state, he said: “I advise all patriotic members to continue to support all our candidates. We are on the watch out to block any form of trading with our candidates which was the trademark of Oke IDAWENE-led executive members. We are giving support funds to all our candidates, taking support for our candidates from mere academic statement to practical engagement.”
“There is no better time to win the LGA election than now because the political trader who used to trade our candidates efforts from time immemorial has been put on check. I urge all candidates to be focused as my leadership will not allow PDP to write any single result wherever our candidates are contesting.
“The joy to our candidates is that they now have 100% opportunity of winning unlike what would have played out with the former who would have made our candidates opportunity less than 20%.
“Mercenaries are in motion currently tracking every activities of trading that will jeopardize our candidates’ efforts,” the statement said.
