BREAKING: DELSU Comrade Community Condemns NANS-JJC Planned Protest Over School Fees Hike

Student leaders in Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, under the aegis of DELSU Students Comrade Community, DELSU Chapter, have said that they are totally against the planned protest by NANS-JJC executive over the review of school fees by the university management.

Recall that one Obaro recently vowed to lead a protest over what he said was the failure of the management to keep to their promise of 15percent reduction of the reviewed school fees after several meetings where the agreement was reached during a meeting of the institution’s management representatives and student leaders.

But, in a swift reaction, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Andy Egwunyenga countered the claims, saying that the reduction was for the increased charges and not the gross school fees, as he condemned moves to protest and calling on students in the institution not to be misled.

Oasis Magazine (OM) learnt that some student leaders are already on ground trying to woo students to protest today.

However, the comrade community in the institution has said they are against any form of.protest, adding that activism should not be a means of extortion, by that inferring that those pushing for the protest from other campuses may intend to use this to syphon money from the management.

A statement by the comrade community in DELSU said: “Students are not complaining about any increment. We are at peace with the Mgt decision, we do not want any non delsu student to distrupt the peace we are currently nursing.

“We are not complaining agaiñ. We understood that 15% reduction was on fee increment, & not gross as we thought…
We are ok with it. We have started paying.
So, relax and DNT come distrupting the peace we are currently enjoying in Delsu. Take ur fight to other institution in the state.

“Thanks to NANS zone B, & Nadestu who came to resolve the issue when we needed help. Now we do not need help again. We are ok with Delsu Management type of reduction. We have almost paid completely & lectures seriously in progress. We have read the explanation & clarification from the Management point of view on the 15% reduction & we are satisfied. Thank You.”

According to the statement, “you do not want us to spill out what our eyes saw & character displayed on that date of resolution mainly from you NANS JCC rep & friends….. Do you? Try other Higher institution for your cash out. Leave Delsu in Peace.”

Adding: “So on this note, we are using this medium to warn you NAN JCC and others who may have this extortion Aluta spirit to allow Delsu Community enjoy its peace, Delsu Students Comrades Community will not tolerate any further threat on the peace of Delsu nor accept any form of external invasion by u people on our campus over this already resolved school fee increment.”

Furthermore, they called on DELSU Management, to be aware that students are not involved in plans for a protest, as they urged security operators and all well meaning Nigerian to call NANS JCC to order & help deal decisively with anyone found trying to disrupt the peace currently enjoyed on campus.

Speaking further, they vowed to resist anyone that goes on with the protest by using every force, measure & confrontation if need be to ensure DELSU remains peaceful.

“We are still not unaware on how they are regrouping our innocent gullible students to join them for their selfish & financial struggles & gains, thereby making us to clash among ourselves. To this, we warn our students not to be allowed to be deceived again thereby unecessarily putting their studentship on the line,” the statement added.

Continuing, the comrades said: “We say NO to NANS extortion.
No to another protest. Yes to Peace in DELSU. Aluta & Activism is not a means for extortion. Don’t cry more than the bereaved.”
