Okpe Union Solicits Okowa’s Support To Produce Governor In 2023

The Okpe Union has called on the Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa and well-meaning Delta State indigenes to support the emergence of an Okpe person as governor of the state come 2023.

This call was contained in a communiqué by the Union during the Annual General Conference /Convention held on Saturday, 24th April, 2021 in Orerokpe with theme: Repositioning Okpe Union for the Unity and Development of Okpe Kingdom.”

They also called on the Federal Government to complete all ongoing Federal projects in the kingdom, noting that Okpe kingdom is the most peaceful kingdom in the state and has a very investor friendly environment.

Continuing, the delegates said the only recognized leadership of Okpe Union is the Interim Executive Committee and passed a unanimous vote of confidence on the Interim Committee.

Delegates said that every effort will be made by members of Okpe Union and Branches to ensure that the Interim Executive Committee succeeds.

Professor Emurobome Idolor- Interim President- General, Okakuro Bright Igbako- Interim Deputy President-General, Dr. Godfrey Enita- Interim General Secretary, Mrs Frances Edafe- Interim Treasurer, Mr. Moses Akpere- Interim Financial Secretary and Mr. Matthew Karieren- Interim Legal Adviser were affirmed and confirmed as executive members by the Union.

Others are Professor Kenneth Eni- Interim Publicity Secretary, Okakuro Best Umukoro- Interim NEC Member and Okakuro Hudson Orhorho- Interim NEC Member.

Furthermore, the delegates confirmed the Nine Point Terms of Reference/Agenda as handed over to the Interim Committee by the Orodje of Okpe in Council, as they lauded His Royal Highness, Orhue 1, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom for his efforts to stabilize Okpe Union following the instability, tension and infighting amongst the former executives of the Union which had begun to lead to breakdown of law and order.

According to the communiqué, “having deliberated on the draft Constitution of Okpe Union 2021 as presented to the Conference, same is hereby adopted subject to the amendments made during the Conference and the Interim Executive Committee is hereby mandated to take all necessary steps to have the said draft Constitution filed at the Corporate Affairs Commission.”

Continuing, they said there is “the need for Okpe Union to focus on being a driving force for the progress of Okpe Kingdom and its people,” and thus urged “all well-meaning Okpe sons and daughters to come together, eschew bitterness, divisiveness and dis-unity that hinders the progress of our dear people.”

Adding: “That we agree with the key submissions of Pharm Barr. William Etubiebi in his paper titled: Repositioning Okpe Union for the Unity and Development of Okpe Kingdom.”

The key submissions of the said paper emphasized the urgent need to position the Okpe Union to be of service to Okpe people, that the Union should work through several committees in solving the many development needs of the kingdom like security committee among others, that the Okpe Union should support the establishment of Agro-Allied industries in Okpe kingdom.

The Okpe Union constitution, 2021, was also adopted as the operating instrument of the Union.
A Ten-Man Board of Trustees for the Union was also constituted.

Meanwhile, delegates were unanimous in affirming that the Okpe House located at Obalande Lagos belongs to Okpe Union and not any branch of the Union.

COMMUNIQUE OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL CONFERENCE /CONVENTION OF OKPE UNION HELD ON SATURDAY, 24TH APRIL, 2021 IN OREROKPE. THEME: REPOSITIONING OKPE UNION FOR THE UNITY AND DEVELOPMENT OF OKPE KINGDOM.
We, as delegates and representatives of Okpe Union Branches from different parts of Nigeria, held our Annual General Conference/Convention on Saturday 24th April 2021 at the Udogun Hall Orerokpe. The resulting communique or declaration was passed unanimously by all members and branches in attendance. At this meeting, the congress considered a number of key issues including the terms of reference for the Interim Committee, the proposed amendment to the Union constitution and a review of the current state of the Union among other issues of national and global interest.
Following an exhaustive deliberation, the delegates resolves as follows:
1. That we affirm and confirm the following persons as Interim Executives of Okpe Union:
a. Professor EmurobomeIdolor- Interim President- General
b. Okakuro Bright Igbako- Interim Deputy President-General
c. Dr. Godfrey Enita- Interim General Secretary
d. Mrs Frances Edafe- Interim Treasurer
e. Mr. Moses Akpere- Interim Financial Secretary
f. Mr. Matthew Karieren- Interim Legal Adviser
g. Professor Kenneth Eni- Interim Publicity Secretary
h. Okakuro Best Umukoro- Interim NEC Member
i. Okakuro Hudson Orhorho- Interim NEC Member
2. That we affirm and confirm the Nine Point Terms of Reference/Agenda as handed over to the Interim Committee by the Orodje of Okpe in Council.
3. That the efforts of His Royal Highness, Orhue 1, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom( in his capacity as Father of All and Paramount ruler of Okpe Kingdom with obligations to maintain peace in his domain), to stabilize Okpe Union following instability, tension and infighting amongst the former executives of the Union which had begun to lead to breakdown of law and order, is laudable and expected in such dire situation as the Union found itself following the Orodje’s several attempts to broker peace amongst the form executives.
4. That having deliberated on the draft Constitution of Okpe Union 2021 as presented to the Conference, same is hereby adopted subject to the amendments made during the Conference and the Interim Executive Committee is hereby mandated to take all necessary steps to have the said draft Constitution filed at the Corporate Affairs Commission.
5. That we reiterate the need for Okpe Union to focus on being a driving force for the progress of Okpe Kingdom and its people. To this end, we urge all well-meaning Okpe sons and daughters to come together, eschew bitterness, divisiveness and dis-unity that hinders the progress of our dear people.
6 That the only recognized leadership of Okpe Union is the Interim Executive Committee as listed above and delegates passed a unanimous vote of confidence on the Interim Committee. Delegates noted that every effort will be made by members of Okpe Union and Branches to ensure that the Interim Executive Committee succeeds.

Delegates at the conference seized the opportunity to call on the Delta State Governor and well-meaning Delta State indigenes to support the emergence of an Okpe person as governor of the state come 2023.
