Oghara Youth Crisis: Erhiatake Ibori Calls For Calm, Says No One Was Killed

Member representing Ethiope West constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, has called for calm and urged her supporters not to carry out any reprisal attack after she was attacked on Sunday by hoodlums while trying to settle rifts amongst youths in Otefe community of Oghara.

The lawmaker and daughter to ex-Governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori, who spoke shortly after the attack on phone, stated that the dastardly act was highly condemnable.

While tasking security operatives to fish out the hoodlums that attacked her, she said that they are known faces in the community.

She also warned against reprisal attacks that will further cause mayhem and loss of lives and properties, adding that contrary to reports, no life was lost as being peddled on social media platforms.

Meanwhile, to clarify issues that played out yesterday, an aide to the lawmaker, Ogbe Collins, said many reports on social media were false, as he described the sponsors peddling the rumours as haters of the relative peace being enjoyed in Ethiope West Local Government Area and particularly Otefe Oghara Community.

He added: “The Honorable in her capacity and as an Indigene of Otefe Oghara in a bid to resolve the raging issues among youths in the community attended the meeting that had all relevant stakeholders in attendance.

“There was tension earlier today at a meeting aimed at settling the rifts among youths of Otefe Oghara Community turned attack.”

He continued: “The meeting that was held at Otefe was about commencing when gun wielding hoodlums in their numbers attacked the Ibori family compound where the meeting was about kicking off.

“The Honorable Member Representing Ethiope West Constituency, Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu who was in attendance was seen as a target by these hoodlums sponsored by some persons in the community.

“Several cars and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed. It took intervention from the military to restore peace.”
